The existing Palugamam Girls home failed to meet Government Guidelines and when the girls from the Cheddipalayam Girls’ Home had to be relocated to Palugamam unexpectedly, the building was overfilling. This led to the need to build an additional home and SWO decided to build a new Girls Home in Palugamam.

A land to build a new home was procured from the Government. In Oct 2012, work on the new girls’ home began with the laying of foundation for the building.

Social Welfare Organisation (SWO) has a Master Plan to build a new Girl’s Home at Pallugamum for 100 orphan or semi orphan girls in four stages for construction.

Stage 1: Home to accommodate forty girls – the building is in advance stage of completion.

Stage 2: Dinning and Kitchen.

Stage 3 & 4: Homes to accommodate all the rest of the girls

The Stage 1 works have been funded by The Saiva Mantram, Sydney.

The building works have been completed and roof tiled. The YouTube link shows progress of the works to September 2014.

We are grateful to ‘The Saiva Mantram’ Sydney for funding the construction of the Stage 1 building todate. Progress of work could be seen by visiting the link:

One of our members introduced Sika Lanka Ltd – a Swiss Company which has its branch offices in Srilanka and Sydney to SWO. Sika has shown its interest in funding to complete the Stage 1 outstanding works and in the construction of Stage 2 and 3 works.

Sika’s Mr Dilhan Alexander has already visited the Construction site at Pallugamam and collected information and estimates needed for the works.

Photos of Dilhan’s site visit could be seen in Flicker
